What the Numbers Show

Of the 122 structure fires included in this Q2 dataset, 88 were classified as residential structure fires. That represents approximately 72% of the reported structure-fire total.

McKinney Fire Department had 27 reported structure-fire incidents in the dataset, including 23 residential, 2 commercial, and 2 other structure fires.

Other Structures Made Up 32 Reports

The dataset included 32 incidents categorized as other structures. These classifications can include property uses that do not fall into the residential or commercial categories used in this report.

How This Tracker Works

The North Texas Structure Fire Tracker uses incident-level information from the National Emergency Response Information System (NERIS) public dataset.

For this quarterly report, the analysis covers reported incidents from April 1 through June 30, 2026 and focuses on structure-fire incidents associated with the 15 fire departments included in the report.

Structure-fire incidents were grouped into three categories for this report: Residential, Commercial, and Other Structure.

A category of “Other Structure” should not be interpreted as a single property type. It represents structure-fire records that did not fall within the residential or commercial classification used for this report.

This tracker is intended as a community information resource. Reported incident counts should not be interpreted as a measure of fire risk for an individual property, neighborhood, or municipality. Differences in population, geography, development, reporting participation, and incident classification can affect the numbers.

Is Your Property Prepared for the Unexpected?

A fire can create both immediate damage and long-term financial consequences. Reviewing your insurance before a loss can help you understand what your policy covers, what limits apply, and what responsibilities you may have after a claim.

Review your dwelling or commercial building coverage.
Check whether your coverage limits reflect current rebuilding costs.
Review your personal property or business personal property limits.
Understand your deductible before a claim occurs.
Review additional living expense or business income coverage.
Keep an updated home or business property inventory.

North Texas Structure Fire Tracker FAQs

What period does the Q2 2026 report cover?
The Q2 2026 report covers reported structure-fire incidents occurring from April 1 through June 30, 2026.
Which communities are included?
This quarter’s tracker includes Lavon, Nevada, Josephine, Royse City, Rockwall, Wylie, Lucas, Allen, McKinney, Melissa, Princeton, Farmersville, Rowlett, Greenville, and Sachse.
What does “Other Structure” mean?
Other Structure is a reporting category used for structure-fire records that were not classified as residential or commercial for this analysis. It can include a variety of other property uses and should not be treated as one specific building type.
Does a higher number of reported fires mean a community is more dangerous?
Not necessarily. Raw incident counts do not account for population, number of properties, geographic area, development patterns, reporting participation, or other factors that can influence the number of reported incidents. This tracker is intended to show reported activity, not rank communities by fire risk.
How often will this tracker be updated?
Lavon Insurance Agency plans to update the tracker quarterly as additional NERIS data becomes available.
Can fire data help me determine how much insurance I need?
Fire statistics can provide useful community context, but they should not be used by themselves to determine insurance limits. Coverage needs depend on factors such as the property, rebuilding cost, contents, liability exposure, deductible, and applicable policy terms.
